One of the easiest traps to fall into is know as The Entitlement Trap.
Signs and symptoms
- The entitlement trap is the mistaken belief that you deserve a great and successful relationship just because you exist on the planet.
- You believe that you deserve to be happy and get what you want in life without any effort or changes on your part.
- You blame others for your relationship failures.
It was columnist Sydney J. Harris that said "Almost no one is foolish enough to imagine that he (or she) automatically deserves great success in any field of activity; yet almost everyone believes that he (or she) automatically deserves success in marriage."
Stay in the entitlement trap and you are virtually guaranteed to become disappointed and bitter, blaming everyone else for your problems and lack of relationship happiness.
Your Solution: Take personal responsibility for your life and relationship. Make sure that "the buck stops here" as Harry Truman was fond of saying. Know who you are, what you want, and how to get it.
